Austria: Adventure, Nature, and Unforgettable Experiences

Hopfgarten, Austria, is the perfect summer escape for all ages, offering a wide range of activities for every adventure seeker. Hopfgarten promises an unforgettable summer holiday full of outdoor adventures and unforgettable memories

.Our trip to Austria was an absolute thrill, filled with breathtaking hikes, exciting outdoor activities, and visits to some incredible mountain parks. From the serene beauty of Hofgarten to the adrenaline-pumping canyoning and archery, Austria had something for every adventurer. We explored the amazing Triassic Park, wandered through Hexenwasser, and had a fun day out at Familienland. Whether it was the peaceful mountain trails or the thrilling activities, Austria offered an adventure-filled experience that we'll never forget.

We drove an electric vehicle from Ghent, Belgium to Austria, with a one-night stop in Ulm along the way. Just a heads-up: the German highways can get quite busy, so be prepared for the occasional traffic jam and plan enough time for the drive.

We stayed at a fantastic place in Hopfgarten called Appartement der Bürgerbote zur Hohen Salve, and we absolutely loved the location. It's just a 5-minute walk from the gondola, and there's free parking on-site, walking distance to restaurants and supermarkets. We spent two weeks here, which turned out to be the perfect amount of time. We hiked every other day, and with so many beautiful trails to choose from, we were never short on options.

A short 10-minute drive from the apartment takes you to Salvenaland, a wonderful family-friendly spot with a lake, inflatables, mini golf, and a restaurant. A couple of things to note: horseflies and wasps can be a bit of a nuisance, so be sure to bring some insect repellent! You can grab some at the local pharmacy or bring it with you.

Aside from hiking, there are plenty of fun activities to enjoy. Booking is easy online, and we went for canyoning, archery, and a visit to a lovely lama and donkey farm. The canyoning experience was incredible for water lovers—we were a small group of just five people, which made it feel even more personal. We ended the tour with an exhilarating waterfall abseil, which was a major highlight!

The archery took place in a beautiful park with friendly guides. They don't speak much English, but communication is easy, and the experience was a lot of fun. The lama and donkey farm is run by a lovely family who truly cares about their animals. The walk was peaceful and enjoyable, but I'd recommend this for families with younger children, especially those under 7.

In the area, there are plenty of gondolas, and I'd suggest considering the Mountain Railway Experience Card—it's a great way to save money in the long run. As for parks, we visited Triassic Park, about a 45-minute drive away, and it was absolutely worth it. The cable car ride up is stunning, and the park is so high up that we were literally above the clouds. We also visited Hexenwasser, a magical place with mountain rivers to play in, picnic areas, and playgrounds. Spend the whole day here, enjoy a picnic in the mountains, take your time, explore the witches' house, and don't miss Europe's longest barefoot path!

Austria’s beauty is best experienced on foot, through adventure, and with an open heart.
